India to get 2nd spaceport, to be run by private firm
Mumbai, Aug. 8 -- India's second under-construction spaceport in Tamil Nadu, set to launch small satellites up to 500kgs, will be operated by a private Indian firm.
On Friday, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre, which is single window nodal autonomous agency under the Department of Space, floated an Expression of Interest from lndian industries for the operation and management of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle Launch Complex (SLC) at Kulasekarapattinam in Thoothukudi district in Tamil Nadu. The decision comes in the backdrop of the Indian Space Policy-2023 that opened space operations to private sector participation.
