India receives Rs.4,896 cr FDI proposals under relaxed rules
New Delhi, Aug. 22 -- India has received Rs.4,895.65 crore (about $511 million) foreign direct investment proposals since the government allowed the automatic approval route for overseas investors with up to 10% beneficial ownership from countries sharing a land border with India, which also includes China, according to a commerce and industry ministry statement.
"The response to the revised framework has been encouraging. Since its introduction, 29 FDI investments have been reported under the revised framework up to 20 August 2026, involving proposed FDI of Rs.4,895.65 crore," an official said asking not to be named.
In order to facilitate global investment firms and multinational companies having insignificant exposure of less than 10% stake from land bordering countries (LBCs), including China Union Cabinet on March 10 allowed them to invest in the country through automatic route, instead of obtaining prior government's approval.

Thus, PN2 of 2026 relaxed the stringent FDI norms under the PN3 of the 2020 series to facilitate FDI from global investors other than those having controlling stake of any LBC entity, including China.
According to the statement, the 29 investments proposed through automatic routes worth Rs.4,895.65 crore have been reported by entities based in jurisdictions including Mauritius, the US, Republic of Korea, Japan, Singapore, Luxembourg and the Cayman Islands.
"These investments span a range of sectors, including Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Information & Communication, Manufacturing, Pharmaceuticals, Data Centres and Transport Services, among others," it said.
Although these 29 FDI proposals did not come through the government route, their details were tracked through the National Single Window System (NSWS), a digital platform to facilitate investors for various approvals, an official mentioned above said....
