Dehradun, Aug. 22 -- India and Nepal discussed measures to address trans-border crime and other criminal activities and strengthen border infrastructure during the two-day 14th meeting of the India-Nepal Joint Working Group (JWG) that concluded here on Friday Officials said the meeting reviewed the security challenges along the India-Nepal border, with both sides focusing on improving coordination to effectively deal with cross-border criminal activities. The discussions also focused on strengthening and ensuring the effective utilisation of border infrastructure, particularly Integrated Check Posts (ICPs), road connectivity and railway networks. The Indian delegation was led by Pausumi Basu, Joint Secretary (BM-I), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, while the Nepali delegation was headed by Ananda Kafle, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of Nepal. Both sides reviewed the wider framework of bilateral cooperation on border management and security and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in these areas. The two countries also discussed the removal of encroachments and maintenance of boundary pillars along the border. They exchanged views on strengthening institutional coordination and capacity building across various sectors and agreed to continue engagement on these issues.
