In quest of wild boar, poachers kill tiger; six in soup
KANPUR, July 7 -- Three more men have been arrested from the Madhya Pradesh-Uttar Pradesh border in Chitrakoot in connection with the electrocution of a tiger in the Majhgawan forest range, taking the total number of arrests in the case to six. Two other identified suspects remain absconding.
The accused had allegedly strung a live electric wire through the forest to trap wild boar, but a tiger came into contact with the wire and was electrocuted.
According to investigators, the accused buried the tiger's carcass in a pit inside the forest to conceal the killing. The remains were recovered four days ago after the department received a tip-off, triggering the arrests.
Three accused, including the alleged kingpin Minta Singh, were arrested earlier. The latest arrests are of Hemraj Singh, Betu Singh and Mahendra Singh, alias Majhila.
Majhgawan range officer Ranjan Singh Parihar said efforts were on to trace the remaining two accused....
