IMS conference concludes at LU
Lucknow, Dec. 30 -- The 91st annual four-day international conference of the Indian Mathematical Society (IMS) concluded at Lucknow University on Monday with an award ceremony recognising outstanding research papers and symposia in areas including algebra, special functions, algebraic topology and differential topology.
Ayushi Kapoor of the University of Lucknow and Samiksha Mahajan of SVNIT, Surat, received the best presentation award in the field of special functions. Ashish Bansal of Keshav Mahavidyalaya, Delhi, was conferred the V. M. Shah Award for his contribution to approximation theory on the final day of the conference.
Mathematicians from India and abroad took part in the event, which also featured special sessions aimed at making mathematics more interesting and accessible, especially for high school and intermediate students. For the first time, school students and teachers were invited to attend an IMS conference.
During the valedictory ceremony, IMS academic secretary G P Rajshekhar said around 300 research papers were presented by scholars and academicians, with 342 registrations recorded - the highest participation in the society's history.
It was also announced that the 92nd annual IMS conference is proposed to be held at South East Asian University, New Delhi.
Prof Ameen Sofi of the University of Kashmir was unanimously elected as the next IMS president and will assume office on April 1 next year....
