IMD warns of severe heatwave for next 2 weeks
Jaipur, May 22 -- Rajasthan is expected to witness intense heatwave conditions and below-normal rainfall over the next two weeks, with maximum temperatures likely to remain between 44 and 47 degrees Celsius across most parts of the state, according to the extended weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department.
The forecast, released by the Meteorological Centre in Jaipur for the period between May 22 and June 4, said most parts of the state are likely to experience predominantly dry weather during both weeks. However, a fresh western disturbance may bring light thunderstorms, drizzle and gusty winds in North-Western and northern Rajasthan on May 22 and 23. Wind speeds during the storm activity could reach 40-50 kmph.
The weather department said rainfall activity during both weeks is expected to remain below normal across Rajasthan. During the second week, some areas in southeastern Rajasthan may witness light drizzle, while the rest of the state is likely to remain dry.
The department has also warned of continued heatwave conditions in most districts during the forecast period. Between May 24 and 27, severe heatwave conditions may occur at isolated places. Maximum temperatures during the first week are expected to remain 3 to 5 degrees Celsius above normal, while in the second week they are likely to stay 1 to 3 degrees above average.
Night temperatures are also expected to remain unusually high. The forecast said minimum temperatures across the state are likely to remain 2 to 4 degrees Celsius above normal during both weeks....
