IMD Predicts light rainfall, snow in state's higher reaches
Mussoorie, March 6 -- Amid the ongoing dry spell, the India Meteorological Department's Dehradun centre has forecast a light spell of rain and snowfall in the state's higher reaches between March 9-11, officials familiar with the matter said on Thursday.
According to IMD, temperatures across the state rose over the past 24 hours on Thursday.
Mussoorie recorded a maximum temperature of 25.4degC, which is 11.1degC above the seasonal normal, while Dehradun recorded 31.2degC, a 5.7degC departure above normal.
In Mukteshwar, the maximum temperature reached 26.1degC, which is 9.9degC above normal, while Roorkee recorded 30.5degC. Night temperatures remained relatively mild, ranging from 9.4degC in Mukteshwar to 15.2degC in Mussoorie, officials said.
IMD Dehradun Centre officials said maximum temperatures have remained above normal in the plains and appreciably above normal in the hilly districts. Maximum temperatures are likely to rise gradually by 1-2degC at many places over Uttarakhand during the next two to three days, the officials said.
The officials said a weak western disturbance will become active on March 6, though it is expected to have minimal impact.
However, another western disturbance is likely to affect the region between March 9 and March 11, bringing very light rain, thunderstorms and snowfall in higher altitude areas....
