IIIT-A to accept PhD admission applications all through yr now
PRAYAGRAJ, June 3 -- In a major step aimed at promoting research and providing greater flexibility to aspiring scholars, the Indian Institute of Information Technology-Allahabad (IIIT-A) has revamped its PhD admission process by introducing a rolling admission system in line with the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020.
Under the new system, candidates can apply for PhD programmes throughout the year instead of waiting for a fixed admission cycle, said officials.
The revised admission process has been implemented from the 2026 academic session. The institute has fixed three cut-off dates for applications in 2026: March 31, June 30 and November 30. While the first phase of admissions has already been completed, interviews for the second phase are scheduled to be held on July 14 and 15. Applications received up to each cut-off date will be processed separately through an independent selection cycle, they added.
The admission process will comprise two stages. In the first stage, candidates will appear for a computer-based screening test consisting of questions on general aptitude and subjects related to their respective departments.
The examination will serve only as a screening mechanism. Candidates qualifying in the test will be invited for a personal interview in the second stage.
Confirming the move, Dean (Innovation and Research) Pramod Kumar said, "Under the new rolling admission system, admissions will be conducted based on the March, June and November cut-off dates. The selection process for the March cycle has already been completed, and classes for candidates selected in the June cycle will begin in July after completion of the admission process."...
