PRAYAGRAJ, Sept. 10 -- The Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI), Prayagraj Local Centre, observed Royal Charter Day on Wednesday to commemorate the organisation being granted Royal Charter status in 1935 by the then British government in recognition of its contribution to engineering and technology. The centre organised a technical seminar on "Smart Digital Technologies for Circular Economy Ecosystem", with consultant and coach Apoorva Agha, an expert in ICT, e-governance and digital transformation and former in-charge of the Computer Centre at Allahabad High Court, as the keynote speaker. Agha explained the concept of circular economy in simple terms, asking: "Every day, humanity withdraws water, forests, minerals, fossil fuels and energy from nature-but how much do we deposit back?" He stressed the need to move from the conventional "take, make and discard" model to one focused on conserving resources and repairing, reusing, refurbishing and recycling products. Prof Avanish Kumar Dubey, chairman of the IEI Prayagraj Local Centre, said smart digital technologies were transforming rural India through platforms such as e-NAM, UPI, e-Sanjeevani, DIKSHA and Direct Benefit Transfer. He stressed that the benefits of technology depended on users being adequately aware of its proper use.
