India, Sept. 19 -- A ustralian HYROX athlete Joanna Wietrzyk has apologised, withdrawn and forfeited the points earned from the Beijing race she won on September 12 after suffering bowel incontinence during the competition but continuing to race. The incident, which left parts of the track and shared equipment contaminated, triggered criticism over hygiene and why she was allowed to continue. Wietrzyk, who won the women's Pro race, said in a statement that she had felt "completely fit and healthy" at the start but regretted not stepping off the track after becoming unwell. "I take responsibility for my decision to continue and am deeply sorry for the discomfort and disruption it caused," she said. HYROX China has offered full refunds to affected competitors and changed its rules to allow race directors to remove athletes if they pose a risk to the hygiene of the event.
