LUCKNOW, March 18 -- Customs officials at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport seized 8.552 kg of suspected hydroponic weed, valued at Rs.8.55 crore in the international market, from a passenger who arrived from Muscat, on Monday. The accused was arrested and remanded to judicial custody. According to customs authorities, the passenger arrived in Lucknow on an Oman Air flight (WY-265). Acting on specific intelligence inputs, officials intercepted the suspect and carried out a detailed examination of his baggage. During the search, officials recovered 17 vacuum-sealed polybags from a black-and-brown backpack. The packets had been carefully concealed using Camlin carbon paper to evade detection. On inspection, they were found to contain a green leafy substance suspected to be hydroponic weed, a high-grade form of cannabis. The total seized contraband weighed 8.552 kg, with an estimated international market value of Rs.8.55 crore. The narcotic substance was seized under Section 43 of the NDPS Act.
