Husband slits wife's throat at in-laws' house, says Police
MEERUT, July 9 -- A 35-year-old woman was allegedly murdered by her husband after he allegedly entered her parental home and attacked her with a knife in Saharanpur district on Wednesday. The accused was later taken into police custody, police said.
Police identified the victim as Meenu Saini, who succumbed to her injuries at a hospital. The incident took place at around 9:30 am in the Fatehpur police station area.
Superintendent of police (City) Vyom Bindal said the woman was allegedly murdered by her husband following prolonged marital discord. "The accused has been taken into custody and further legal proceedings are underway. Police are continuing the investigation."
According to police, Sunny Saini allegedly barged into his in-laws' house, where Meenu had been staying for the past 20 days following a marital dispute. After an argument, he allegedly stabbed her multiple times and slit her throat before fleeing.
Neighbours rushed to the house after hearing Meenu's screams and took her to a nearby Community Health Centre, where doctors declared her dead.
Police said the couple had married for love around 14 years ago despite opposition from their families. Meenu belonged to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, while Sunny belongs to the Other Backward Classes (OBC). The families later accepted the marriage. The couple have four children.
Investigators said the couple had been facing frequent marital disputes for several years. About 20 days ago, Meenu left her matrimonial home and began living with her parents after another argument. Police said Sunny had visited her parental home several times to persuade her to return, but she refused.
On Wednesday, Sunny allegedly returned to the house and another argument broke out. Police alleged that he then attacked Meenu with a knife before fleeing.
She was alone when the attack took place, while other family members had gone to work and a nephew was at school. Police said Meenu was staying at her elder brother Sonu's house at the time of the incident. Her father, Bal Kishan, works at a rice factory in Roorkee and Sonu is employed at a petrol pump.
A forensic team examined the crime scene and collected evidence before the body was sent for postmortem examination....
