Hospital data shows2K dog bite cases in last 2-and-a-half months
Rudrapur, Sept. 22 -- Cases of dog bites in Rudrapur and nearby areas of US Nagar district are on the rise, officials have said, with 2,072 cases being recorded in the last two-and-a-half months. People line up daily to get anti-rabies injections administered in the government district hospital in Rudrapur.
Dr RK Sinha, principal medical superintendent of the district hospital in Rudrapur said on Sunday, "A number of dog bite cases are reaching our hospital and injured people are being administered anti-rabies injection by our staff. Even on holidays, anti-rabies injections are administered in the emergency room."
According to data collected from the district hospital, stray dogs bit 547 people in June, 734 people in July. In August, dog bite cases rose to 791. Not only stray dogs are biting, even domestic dogs are also injuring the people.
Mostly people of Transit camp, Khera, Rampura, Sanjay Nagar, Ravindra Nagar colonies of Rudrapur and Kali Nagar, Jaynagar, Chhatarpur and other villages reach hospital for the treatment, said Sinha.
Naresh Durgapal, municipal commissioner of Rudrapur municipal commissioner said, "To get rid of stray dog menace, they are being sterilised in Rudrapur. Till now, more than 5000 stray dogs have been sterilised. A tag is tagged on the left ear to identify the sterilised dog."
Preeti Saxena, a resident of Jagatpura, "Due to dog bite cases, I drop my daughter to the school bus stand in the morning and receive her when the school gets over... Like me, other parents do the same."...
