Hosp fire toll rises to 7; licence suspended
PATNA, June 7 -- With death of one more patient, the toll in Muzaffarpur hospital fire rose to seven on Saturday. Meanwhile, the district authorities also suspended the licence of Prasad Hospital where the fire incident took place, officials said on Saturday.
The victim, Anjani Kumar Singh, a resident of Madwan, who was suffering from kidney and liver-related ailment, was shifted to Ashoka Hospital after suffering injuries in the fire.
Ashoka Hospital's director and senior surgeon Dr Subhash Singh confirmed his death.
He said five patients were brought to Ashoka Hospital for treatment after the Prasad Hospital fire incident. Three of them were referred to Patna for better treatment by the health department team. Five deaths took place on Thursday when smoke filled the ICU after a short circuit, and the staff allegedly ran away, leaving patients behind.
The sixth individual died during treatment on Friday. The hospital was found flouting safety norms and thus its licence has been suspended, district PRO Pramod Kumar confirmed. The civil surgeon directed the hospital management to submit a factual explanation, along with the necessary records and evidence, within seven days....
