Home Guard exam day 2 sees higher turnout at 76.94%
LUCKNOW, April 27 -- The second day of the Uttar Pradesh Home Guard Enrolment-2025 written examination recorded an improved turnout of 76.94%, even as authorities initiated legal action against misinformation and malpractice, according to a press note issued by the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board.
On Sunday, a total of 6,49,435 candidates appeared out of 8,44,066 registered across 1,053 centres in 74 districts. The examination was conducted in two shifts and remained peaceful and well organised, the board said.
The board reported cases of misleading information circulated on social media and instances of unfair practices during the examination period. An FIR was registered at Hussainganj police station in Lucknow against unidentified individuals for allegedly spreading false information through a YouTube channel and a Telegram group linked to the examination. The case has been filed under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Information Technology Act, and the Uttar Pradesh Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
In Bareilly district, a candidate identified as Anurag, a resident of Hardoi, was arrested for alleged impersonation. Officials said he appeared at two different examination centres under different identities on consecutive days. Biometric data, photographs, and records matched, confirming duplication despite variation in names. A case has been registered at Kotwali police station, and the accused has been taken into custody.
On the opening day (April 25), the examination recorded a turnout of 75.33%, with over 6.35 lakh candidates appearing out of 8.44 lakh scheduled across the same 1,053 centres in 74 districts, excluding Shravasti. Officials said the exam was conducted under extensive security arrangements as part of a three-day exercise (April 25-27) to fill 41,424 home guard posts. Around 25.32 lakh candidates are expected to appear overall.
The examination on both days was held in two shifts - from 10 am to 12 noon and from 3 pm to 5 pm - with strict frisking, biometric verification, and retina scans in place to prevent impersonation and malpractice. The examination will conclude after the completion of two shifts scheduled on Monday.
The board reiterated that stringent action will be taken against anyone attempting to compromise the integrity of the examination and advised candidates to remain cautious of misleading information....
