Heavy rain likely over East UP dists today
LUCKNOW, Oct. 4 -- Heavy to very heavy rain is likely over Eastern UP districts on October 4 and 5 with some places experiencing extremely heavy rainfall on October 4.
Under the influence of the upcoming Western Disturbance, heavy rainfall is likely over western UP on October 6 with hailstorms at some places on October 6 and 7, the Met department said in its forecast on Friday.
In view of this, some districts of Eastern Uttar Pradesh have been put on orange alert till October 4. This present spell of rainfall is due to favourable synoptic and geophysical conditions. There is a possibility of reduction in the intensity and regional distribution of rainfall in the state after the first week of October, the weatherman said.
Forecast for Lucknow
The forecast for the state capital is a generally cloudy sky becoming overcast with one or two spells of rain, thundershowers.
The maximum and minimum temperature will be around 30 and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning/ gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) are very likely at isolated places.
On Friday, parts of the state capital experienced brisk rainfall. As a result day temperature reduced to 32.1 which was 1.5 degrees above normal.
The state forecast is rain/thundershower very likely at isolated places over West UP and at most places over East UP. IMD has issued a warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning/gusty winds (speed 40-50 Kmph) very likely at isolated places over East UP. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely at isolated places with extremely heavy rain at one or two places over East UP.
Varanasi received 108.8 mm
Due to the effect of this depression, 108.8 mm of rain was recorded at the BHU (Varanasi) observatory during 9 hours from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm on Friday, which is the second highest in the observation history of BHU during the month after October 1900 (138.9 mm), while Varanasi district has the third highest rainfall in a single day in the month of October {1. Babatpur-142.8 mm (04 October 1977) and 2. BHU-138.9 mm (09 October 1900)}, and with 15 hours of the day still remaining and the continuous rain, it is likely to increase further.
Due to heavy rainfall, day temperature in the city dropped to 27.1 degrees Celsius and minimum 24.6 degrees, respectively. Prayagraj recorded 12.5 mm, Churk 12.4 mm, Sultanpur 10.8 mm....
