LUCKNOW, Feb. 8 -- There was an alleged heated argument at the Lucknow University between students associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the National Student Union of India (NSUI) as the latter alleged that it was denied permission for holding an event by the university earlier while the former was allowed to organise its national symposium on Saturday. It was during the ABVP's national symposium organised in collaboration with Krishna Devi Girls Degree College at the Lucknow University's social work department when students associated with the NSUI staged a protest over the denial of permission to hold their national student dialogue a few days back. "During the protest, a member of the LU's Proctorial Board (a professor) was allegedly assaulted by one of the outsiders when NSUI student leaders intervened. Due to this, there was a heated exchange of words between ABVP and NSUI workers," claimed NSUI's Prince Prakash. He further claimed that the NSUI has demanded an impartial inquiry into the entire incident and strict action against the guilty so that peace and dignity are maintained on campus. "The NSUI has also urged the university administration to refrain from its discriminatory behaviour and if it is unable to handle the responsibility, someone else should be given the opportunity," Prakash claimed. LU proctor Rakesh Dwivedi said, "During a national seminar organised by Krishna Devi Girls Degree College at the Rabindranath Mukherjee Auditorium, Lucknow University, some students from the NSUI staged a protest. Members of the proctorial board promptly intervened and managed to control the situation peacefully." ABVP's Vikas Tiwari claimed that they had only organised a peaceful programme. "If the NSUI or any other organisation wants to conduct any programme on nation building or any cultural programme, they must also hold such events peacefully with the proctorial board's permission. We did not organise any programme which would create chaos on the university premises," Tiwari said....
