Health officials directed to use public transport, conserve fuel
VARANASI, May 14 -- Health department officials in the Varanasi and Mirzapur divisions were on Wednesday directed to minimise the use of petrol and diesel, promote public transport and observe a weekly 'No-Vehicle Day'.
The directions were issued by additional chief secretary (health) Amit Kumar Ghosh during an online review meeting of the two divisions. The meeting was attended by senior health officials from Varanasi and Mirzapur. In Varanasi, additional director of health Dr Narendra Dev Sharma, chief medical officer Dr Rajesh Prasad, chief medical superintendent of SSPG Hospital Dr Brajesh Kumar and other officials participated in the meeting virtually.
Ghosh instructed officials to adopt fuel conservation measures and encouraged greater use of public transport.
The additional chief secretary also stressed the need for water conservation and reviewed the implementation of various public health programmes, including the TB eradication campaign, Poshan Melas and nutrition awareness drives.
Officials were advised to reduce fat intake in their diets and consult dieticians for personalised nutritional guidance.
During the meeting, a comprehensive review of medical units and departments across the Varanasi and Mirzapur divisions was conducted on the basis of 90 parameters prescribed by the medical and health department.
Among the institutions reviewed, the SSPG Divisional Hospital in Varanasi emerged as the top-performing medical unit. Officials said the hospital was assessed on service delivery, administrative efficiency and implementation of health schemes.
The review reports of the Varanasi and Vindhyachal divisions were presented by officials of the respective divisions during the meeting....
