HC seeks state report on Waqf properties
JODHPUR, Aug. 18 -- The Rajasthan High Court has sought detailed reports from state authorities and the Waqf Board on properties listed on the UMEED Portal as Waqf properties, particularly those owned by the state or facing objections from government authorities or private persons.
A division bench of Dr Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati and Justice Praveer Bhatnagar, hearing a suo motu writ petition, directed authorities to clarify how such disputes would be resolved. The matter will be heard next on September 2.
The bench was informed that the district administration's survey of relevant khasra numbers found considerable discrepancies and conflicting claims over Waqf properties, particularly their physical existence. Waqf Board CEO Abu Sufiyan Chauhan said identification and uploading of properties was being carried out through the prescribed Maker, Checker and Approver system. Of 19,044 properties initially considered, 17,500 were ultimately uploaded on the portal after the process. The bench directed amicus curiae Moti Singh and Abhishek Mehta to examine affidavits to be filed by the Municipal Corporation and Waqf Board and submit a report before the next hearing....
