HC relief to YouTuber Gautam Khattar in Karauli remark case
PRAYAGRAJ, May 22 -- The Allahabad high court extended till July 14 interim protection from arrest to YouTuber Gautam Khattar, who is facing a UP police FIR over his alleged derogatory remarks against 'Sri Karauli Shankar Mahadev Baba' (also known as 'Karauli Sarkar').
The bench comprising Justice JJ Munir and Justice Tarun Saxena in its May 19 order granted two weeks' time to the state counsel and also to the informant's counsel to file counter affidavit in the case and directed that the petitioner shall not be arrested until July 14, the next date of hearing.
Priyanka Dwivedi, a Kanpur resident, had lodged an FIR against Khattar for acting as a self-styled founder of the 'Sanatan Mahasangh' and using his social media accounts to allegedly spread a provocative and hateful message.
Khattar allegedly uploaded a video of the seer and made indecent remarks intended to tarnish his image and hurt the religious sentiments of his followers.
The petitioner's counsel argued that all that the alleged speech says is that no one should pose as God. He contended that this is no more than an expression of opinion which does not constitute an offence under any law....
