HC issues notices to singer Samar Singh and producer Sanjay Singh
Prayagraj, May 9 -- While hearing a writ petition seeking a CBI probe into the suspicious death of Bhojpuri actress Akanksha Dubey, the Allahabad high court on Friday issued notices to two accused men: Samarjeet Singh alias Samar Singh, a singer and actor of Bhojpuri films, and Sanjay Singh, a producer and his business partner. The court has fixed May 22 for the next hearing on the matter.
The bench, comprising justice Siddharth and Justice Vinay Kumar Dwivedi, also directed the station house officer (SHO) of Sarnath police station, Police Commissionerate Varanasi, to file a reply (counter affidavit). The court warned that failing to do so will require the SHO's personal presence at the next listing on May 22.
The court further directed the police commissioner, Varanasi, to ensure that the counter affidavit is filed in the case by the SHO.
The writ petition was filed by Madhu Dubey, Akanksha Dubey's mother, seeking a CBI inquiry into the Bhojpuri actress's death. In her petition, she alleged that her daughter's death was murder, not suicide.
Back in 2023, the body of Bhojpuri actress Akanksha Dubey was found in a hotel in Sarnath, Varanasi. Her mother, Madhu Dubey, alleged murder, accusing both Samar Singh and Sanjay Singh of involvement. Police, however, maintained the case was suicide.
Raising questions about the police investigation, the deceased actress's mother filed the writ petition, seeking a CBI inquiry to unearth the truth....
