HC imposes Rs.5k cost on rural developmentcommissioner in contempt case
LUCKNOW, July 5 -- The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court has imposed a cost of Rs.5,000 on rural development commissioner GS Priyadarshi for failing to comply with the writ court's order in a contempt case. The court directed that the amount be paid personally, and not from government funds, to the petitioner.
The court observed that if the commissioner complies with the writ court's order within two weeks, he shall also file an affidavit enclosing proof of payment of the Rs.5,000 cost to the petitioner. The court said the cost was imposed as the commissioner failed to comply with the writ court's order within the stipulated time, compelling the petitioner to initiate contempt proceedings.
A single bench of Justice Saurabh Lavania passed the order on July 2 while hearing a contempt petition filed by Lakhan Singh. The petitioner contended that the rural development commissioner had failed to comply with the writ court's order dated February 20, 2026.
