Lucknow, June 19 -- The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Thursday has taken a tough stand on the non-payment of Rs 7 lakh rupees as compensation to a rape victim. The court has issued a contempt notice to Amethi district magistrate Sanjay Chauhan, a party to the contempt petition filed in the case. A vacation single bench of justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal passed the order on June 18 in response to a contempt petition filed by the victim. Her lawyer argued that on April 29, the writ court had directed the respondent officials to release the compensation to the rape victim within three weeks. Despite a copy of this order being served by speed post on May 9, the compensation had not been paid to the victim. Thus, the writ court's order has not yet been complied with, it submitted. While issuing a notice to the Amethi district magistrate, the court scheduled the next hearing for July 22. The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court has directed the Hardoi superintendent of police and the police station in-charge to recover a 16-year-old minor girl abducted from Hardoi and present her in court on July 16. A vacation single bench of justice Ram Manohar Narayan Mishra passed this order on Thursday on the habeas corpus petition filed by the mother of the minor girl. The petitioner said that on May 1, 2026 a man abducted her minor daughter by enticing her. She has lodged an FIR in Atrauli police station of Hardoi.
