LUCKNOW, Aug. 6 -- Harikishan Mittal, father of UP director general of police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna and a former chief engineer of the UP irrigation department, passed away on Wednesday, at the age of 87. His demise was widely mourned by the administrative and engineering fraternity and those who knew him for his integrity and commitment to public service. Born in 1938 in Meerut, Mittal completed his early education in his hometown before enrolling in civil engineering at Roorkee in 1957. After graduating in 1960, he joined the irrigation department as an engineer and went on to build an illustrious career spanning over three decades. During his distinguished service, he made significant contributions to several landmark irrigation and hydroelectric projects, including the Kalagarh Dam Project, the Pilibhit-Banbasa Bifurcation Project and the Tehri Power House Project. Known for his technical excellence, professional integrity and unwavering dedication to duty, he rose through the ranks to retire as chief engineer of the UP irrigation department in 1996. After retirement, Mittal settled in Lucknow's Ashiana locality, where he was respected for his simple lifestyle, disciplined approach and warm personality. Chief minister Yogi Adityanath visited the family's residence in Lucknow to pay his last respects and expressed his condolences.
