Haridwar civic body brings in new rules for pet dog owners
Haridwar, April 8 -- Municipal Corporation Haridwar has introduced new and stringent rules for pet dog ownership within its civic limits, making registration mandatory for all pet dogs and banning certain aggressive breeds in the interest of public safety, officials said.
The new bylaws related to pet dog management were approved during a recent board meeting of the municipal corporation as part of efforts to regulate pet ownership and address safety concerns in residential areas.
Deputy commissioner of municipal corporation Deepak Goswami said that under the new policy, registration of all pet dogs has been made compulsory. "Registration of pet dogs has been made mandatory with a charge of Rs.200 for keeping a pet dog. In case of violation of the rule, a penalty of Rs.5,000 will be imposed on the dog owner," Goswami said.
He added that the civic body has also prohibited the keeping of certain aggressive dog breeds within the municipal limits to prevent potential attacks and ensure the safety of residents. According to the new regulations, breeds such as Pit Bull, Rottweiler, Dogo Argentino, and American Bulldog have been banned from being kept as pets in areas under the jurisdiction of the Municipal Corporation Haridwar.
