GST deputy commissioner held taking Rs.50K bribe in Varanasi
LUCKNOW, July 16 -- Vigilance Establishment on Wednesday arrested a deputy commissioner of the state GST department in Varanasi while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.50,000 from an industrialist, vigilance officials said.
The arrested officer was identified as Ambika, deputy commissioner, State GST (Sector 6), Varanasi.
According to the Vigilance Establishment, the complainant, AK Maurya, director of Black Smith Industries Pvt Ltd and a resident of Varanasi, alleged that the officer had demanded Rs.50,000 for clarification and disposal of matters related to the company's February 2023 GST return and assessment proceedings. Maurya submitted a complaint to the superintendent of police, UP Vigilance Establishment.
