GRP reviews CCTV trail across 20 stns in UP, Bihar
LUCKNOW, May 19 -- A manhunt is underway after railway authorities recovered dismembered body parts of an unidentified woman from the Chhapra-Gomti Nagar Express on Sunday. Government Railway Police (GRP) have now launched an intensive review of CCTV footage across all 20 stations along the train's route.
Investigators are attempting to identify the passenger who allegedly boarded the train with the suspicious luggage containing the body parts.
The recovery was made inside coach S-1 of Train No. 15114 after railway staff noticed unattended items, prompting the Railway Protection Force, GRP, plus forensic experts to conduct an inspection.
Police teams will question passengers in the reserved sleeper coach through scrutiny of reservation records to track the luggage movement during the train's nearly 12-hour journey.
"Our team has already reached Bihar covering all stations starting from Chapra where the train originated. The team is now in UP, covering remaining stations till Gomti Nagar where the body was found," said SP Railway Lucknow Rohit Mishra to HT.
Men in the coach are considered important for the investigation, the officer said. Identification remains a challenge due to the headless condition.
"The postmortem report is still awaited," he added.
The body was allegedly packed carefully in polythene, sealed in luggage in a manner preventing blood from leaking out during transit. Police are examining whether the woman was murdered elsewhere, with the train used to dispose of the remains in an attempt to mislead investigators.
Forensic experts are analysing the luggage, polythene wrapping, plus other materials for fingerprints, biological traces to help identify the victim or suspect.
Investigators suspect the body was dismembered using a sharp, heavy weapon, possibly a butcher's chopper.
However, officials reported no visible signs of sexual assault or external struggle marks on the recovered parts.
The victim, believed to be aged 25-35 years, was reportedly wearing a colourful salwar suit.
An FIR has been registered at the Charbagh GRP police station, with investigation ongoing....
