Green shade nets at Lko crossings
LUCKNOW, May 25 -- Halting at traffic signals amid scorching heat and direct blazing sun will no longer be as discomforting for commuters, as the city traffic police have started installing green shade nets at major intersections.
One such initiative was seen at the city's busiest crossing Hazratganj in Lucknow.
The move comes as temperatures continued to soar on Sunday, with the mercury touching around 42degC during the afternoon and the IMD issuing a heatwave as well as warm night alert for the city.
Traffic police officials said the green nets have been installed at select busy crossings to reduce direct exposure to sunlight for motorists, auto-rickshaw drivers and pedestrians waiting for the signal to turn green. The temporary shade structures are aimed at offering some respite from extreme daytime heat conditions.
Commuters welcomed the move, saying the nets were providing noticeable relief during peak afternoon hours when roads and intersections become unbearably hot. Auto-rickshaw drivers and daily commuters stopping at long traffic signals particularly appreciated the initiative....
