MEERUT, May 7 -- The UP Housing and Development Board on Wednesday sealed the Grand Square commercial complex on Hapur road in Meerut, citing violations of construction plans and regulatory norms. The operation also led to the closure of a newly launched jewellery showroom, 'Zakati Jewellers', owned by YouTuber Shadab Jakati. According to superintendent engineer Rahul Yadav, the complex had been constructed in deviation from the sanctioned building map and was being operated in violation of established rules. Despite multiple notices issued earlier to the property owner, no corrective measures were taken, prompting authorities to carry out the sealing drive. Officials said that certain portions of the complex did not comply with approved structural standards. When the enforcement team reached the site, they sealed the entire premises, including Jakati's showroom, citing regulatory violations. The controversy surrounding 'Zakati Jewellers' began soon after its grand opening on April 28. The inauguration event drew an unusually large crowd, leading to traffic congestion and disruption of local security arrangements. Following the incident, Jakati was challaned for breach of peace. As of now, the entire Grand Square complex remains sealed under the supervision of police and administrative authorities, with further action expected based on compliance and legal proceedings....
