Govt won't intervene for now; Trust decides to set up probe panel
Lucknow, June 13 -- Commenting on the controversy surrounding Ram temple donation money, agriculture minister Surya Pratap Shahi on Friday said it is an internal matter of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust and the state government will not intervene for now.
He made the remark a day after the Trust decided on Thursday to get the matter investigated by a committee comprising retired judges. The committee will submit its report to the Trust. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting in Lucknow, reportedly attended by RSS leaders and Trust members.
"The state government is not intervening in the matter for now because it pertains to the Trust. If the Trust expects any assistance or action from the government, the government will consider it," said Shahi, the minister in charge of Ayodhya. He was in the temple town to mark the Modi government's 12 years. The Trust is fully alert and vigilant, he said, adding, "The faith of devotees will not be allowed to be tampered with. If there is any lapse or irregularity anywhere, it is being investigated." He clarified the Trust is an autonomous, self-governing body. The Trust is an independent institution registered under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882.
Meanwhile, Trust office bearers will soon appear before the press to issue a statement clarifying the issue. The detailed format of statement was reportedly finalised at Thursday's meeting.
According to sources, those who attended the four-hour-long meeting included RSS Akhil Bharatiya Karyakarini member Suresh 'Bhaiyyaji' Joshi, Trust general secretary Champat Rai, treasurer Swami Govind Dev Giri, members Nripendra Misra, Dr Anil Kumar Mishra and Krishna Mohan, Ram Mandir administrator Gopal Rao, and kshetra pracharak Anil Kumar.
Trust officials said employees of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust and State Bank of India are currently conducting an internal audit of cash donations received in the Ram Mandir donation boxes. htc...
