Govt orders time-bound flood readiness in vulnerable districts
LUCKNOW, July 12 -- The Uttar Pradesh government on Friday reviewed preparedness in flood-prone districts across six divisions, directing officials to complete all arrangements on time and ensure no negligence in relief and rescue operations.
The review meeting, held at the Devi Patan divisional headquarters in Gonda, was chaired by principal secretary (revenue) Aparna U was also attended by relief commissioner Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod.
Divisional commissioner Durga Shakti Nagpal presented the flood preparedness plan and innovations adopted in the division. The review covered flood-related works in 18 flood-sensitive districts spread across six divisions: Devi Patan, Ayodhya, Lucknow, Basti, Gorakhpur and Azamgarh.
Officials assessed the progress of flood protection works, tenders and work orders, besides reviewing the readiness of flood shelters with drinking water, electricity, toilets and sanitation facilities.
The meeting also reviewed the availability of boats, boatmen, divers, volunteers, medical and veterinary teams, ambulances, animal fodder, essential medicines, drinking water, sanitation, power supply, flood control rooms and early warning systems. Aparna U said preparations, inter-departmental coordination and prompt decision-making are essential for effectively dealing with natural disasters. She directed officials that no negligence at any level would be tolerated in relief and rescue operations....
