Rudrapur, Sept. 7 -- The state government has sanctioned Rs.73 crore for the treatment of four identified danger zones between Ghat and Pithoragarh on the Tanakpur-Pithoragarh national highway, a move aimed at reducing frequent landslides, traffic disruptions and risks to commuters during the monsoon. The four vulnerable stretches, including Delhi Bend, Ghat Bend, the danger zone near Meena Bazar and Jamirkhet, have been identified for remedial work on the all-weather road. These stretches are particularly prone to landslides during rainy season, with falling debris and boulders frequently blocking the highway and disrupting traffic. "After receiving clearance for the treatment of danger zones between Ghat and Pithoragarh, we have initiated the process. The process will take time due to the ongoing monsoon season," said Vibhor Gupta, executive engineer, NHAI, Lohaghat in Champawat. According to officials, work cannot be started immediately because of the ongoing monsoon, when fresh landslides and unstable slopes could hamper construction activity. The NHAI will begin the work after the rainy season, once the necessary formalities, including the tendering and other procedural requirements, are completed.
