Govt hiding diarrhoea figures, showing false picture: Ajay Rai
LUCKNOW, Aug. 28 -- Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee chief Ajay Rai on Wednesday targeted the state government over its handling of a diarrhoea crisis in the city's Jankipuram, and said it was busy juggling figures and showing false pictures.
"The death of a man in Jankipuram shows how he was treated for diarrhoea. The cause of his death was shown to be something else. This [Lucknow] is the constituency of India's defence minister and our state capital too," he said.
"The insensitivity is that the government is hiding the deaths. Rajesh Kaushal, a resident of Jankipuram's Sector-7, died of diarrhoea. This was when Lucknow is ranked third in terms of cleanliness in the entire country. No BJP leader went there to enquire about the condition of his family," said Rai.
During the press conference, Ajay also showed pictures of a drain outside Kaushal's house. "Drinking water pipe flows from the same drain," Rai said.
Rai also raised the issue of employment. "The UP government has failed to provide employment, and the youth are disappointed. To hide its shortcomings, the government is organising fake events like the so-called Rozgar Mela where the youth are just being deceived. CVs and degrees are being found in garbage heaps. The youth who have come from far and wide to attend this event, do not even know what will happen to them. On the other hand, the chief minister is distributing 'jumla' in his speech."
