Govt: Reforms have led to improved power supply
Lucknow, Feb. 8 -- Uttar Pradesh has largely overcome its long-standing power deficit, with the gap between electricity demand and supply now almost eliminated, a state government spokesman claimed here on Saturday.
"Under chief minister Yogi Adityanath's government, sustained policy and management reforms have resulted in improved power availability across the state, even during peak demand periods," he said.
Quoting official data, the spokesman said the state's electricity requirement stood at 144,251 lakh units in FY 2022-23. Power supply rose to 148,287 lakh units in FY 2023-24 and further to 164,786 lakh units in FY 2024-25.
In the current financial year 2025-26, up to December 2025, the power deficit has been virtually wiped out.
"The government has also focused on strengthening transmission and distribution infrastructure," the spokesperson said.
Power has been sourced through the national grid from surplus states to meet demand on time.
Under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), ageing power lines have been replaced, transformer capacity enhanced and smart metering introduced, helping reduce losses and curb theft.
