Lucknow, Aug. 8 -- Governor Anandiben Patel honoured women from nomadic tribes for completing training in tailoring and embroidery and distributed certificates among them on the occasion of National Handloom Day on Friday. At an event organised by Samarasta Seva Sansthan and the Ghumantu Janjati Parishad, the governor viewed an exhibition of handmade products created by the women and praised their skills and creativity. Children selected by the Ghumantu Janjati Parishad and other communities performed cultural dances at the event. Ten sewing machines were also distributed to the women. The governor remarked that skill development and self-reliance are vital means of empowering women. She urged women to learn whatever skills are taught to them with utmost dedication and diligence, and to strive for proficiency in them. Regarding the certificates awarded to women, the governor stated that they must clearly specify the duration of the training and the skills acquired. She urged members of nomadic communities to prepare and submit a list of at least 100 individuals interested in receiving skill training. "Post-training, they would be linked to government schemes-such as the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana-to help them start their own businesses and become self-reliant," she said and added that community members must also cooperate in this initiative. Asim Arun, minister of state (independent charge) social welfare, scheduled caste and tribal welfare, congratulated the women on their achievement. Earlier, while delivering the welcome address, institute's founder, Sunil Sharma, highlighted the various social and public welfare activities conducted by the organisation. Reena Singh, chairperson, Indo-American Chamber of Commerce, Lucknow Chapter, underlined the importance of upliftment, empowerment, and social participation of women. Singh said if implemented, the governor's suggestions may be a game changer. Dignitaries present on the occasion included Pawan Kumar Singh (member, UP Legislative Council), Rajesh Pandey (organisation secretary of the Nomadic Tribe Council, Awadh Province), and other prominent figures, alongside a large number of families from the nomadic community. htc...
