LUCKNOW, June 8 -- The Uttar Pradesh secondary education department has directed district education authorities across the state to ensure that BEd students undergo mandatory internships in government secondary schools in line with National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) regulations. In a communication dated June 5, Pratap Singh Baghel, director, secondary education, instructed all joint directors of education and district inspectors of schools to implement the internship programme for the 2026-27 academic session. The directive refers to a state government order issued on April 30, 2026, and states that BEd colleges must arrange internships for their students in nearby government secondary schools. Where a government school is not available in the vicinity, aided secondary schools may be used for the purpose. Partha Sarthi Sen Sharma, additional chief secretary, basic and secondary education, said, "Both higher and secondary education department have come together to ensure that all BEd students do their internship in nearby government or government aided schools." The department said district authorities should obtain consolidated information from colleges regarding the number of trainee teachers and coordinate with regional higher education officials to facilitate the allotment of schools for internships. Colleges have also been asked to furnish details of their students to the concerned district school inspector in a timely manner to ensure smooth implementation of the programme.
