Goods train derails near Vrindavan; rail traffic hit
Agra, Oct. 23 -- Around 60% trains passing through Palwal-Mathura segment were delayed due to derailment of 13 wagons of goods train near Vrindavan on Tuesday night.
The fourth, third and down track for Delhi was restored by afternoon hours on Wednesday.
"There was cancellation of major trains on Tuesday night because of derailment, but there was no cancellation of trains on Wednesday although most of the trains moved with diversion. Time punctuality was hit to the extent of 60% because of derailment as only 40% trains ran on time," stated Prashasti Srivastava, the public relations officer (PRO) for Agra Division of North Central Railway (NCR).
According to bulletin released by Railway authorities on Tuesday night, thirteen wagons of PMRG/32335+33560 goods train derailed at 8.30pm on Tuesday night between Vrindavan and Ajhai station of Mathura-Palwal segment blocking the up, down and third train track, although traffic continued on fourth track but with caution. There was no loss to life or property.
The affected segment lies between Mathura and Delhi and the impact was huge affecting connectivity of Delhi to southern and western parts of the nation. Due to this disruption in train traffic, a plan was made to divert the trains while many trains were cancelled. Work for restoration began with railway officials reaching the spot and helpline numbers were issued for Mathura, Agra Cantt, Dholpur, Tundla and Etawah. Passengers were found looking for alternatives while many waited being stranded at railway stations.
"The fourth track was available continuously and trains were passed with caution. Restoration work continued all through Tuesday night and the third line was turned operative by Wednesday morning. Later the down track was also made operative by 5pm on Wednesday and work was on for restoring track for up trains when reports last came," stated Prashasti Srivastava on Wednesday afternoon....
