LUCKNOW, Sept. 14 -- Timely first aid and proper transportation to a hospital during the first hour after an accident, heart attack or stroke can significantly improve a patient's chances of survival, experts said on the concluding day of the three-day COMET-2026 (Conclave of Medical Emergencies & Trauma) on Sunday. They stressed the need to expand emergency care training and systems across UP. The event was organised by the Society of Acute Care, Trauma and Emergency Medicine in collaboration with Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University and was attended by more than 800 doctors, nurses and paramedical professionals from six countries. Society national president Dr Lokendra Gupta said the concept of the "golden hour" should not remain limited to patients living close to major hospitals. "Patients meeting accidents or suffering heart attacks or strokes in every part of the state should receive initial treatment without delay," he said, stressing the need for trained healthcare personnel at the grassroots level. Dr Sameer Mishra of KGMU's trauma surgery department said patients would directly benefit from such training. As part of the conclave, eight teams from across the country participated in the "Battle of the Bays" simulation exercise.
