GMC records 130% rise in revenue collection
GORAKHPUR, June 22 -- The Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation (GMC) has scripted a new chapter in revenue collection by registering an impressive 130 per cent growth in earnings this financial year, emerging as the top-performing municipal corporation among all 17 municipal corporations in Uttar Pradesh.
Municipal Commissioner Ajay Jain said the outstanding performance was achieved through intensified revenue collection campaigns, expansion of the tax base, and improved compliance among taxpayers. He added that the additional income would support several civic projects, including road development, sanitation, drainage, and other public services.
According to Jain, the corporation recorded an unprecedented 130 per cent increase in revenue compared to the previous year, collecting Rs.216 crore. This achievement was officially recognised by the State Urban Directorate and reflected significant improvements in tax recovery, user charges, and municipal services.
Mayor Dr. Manglesh Srivastava and Jain expressed satisfaction over the achievement and credited Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for his support and encouragement in helping the corporation outperform other urban local bodies in state. htc...
