VARANASI, Sept. 1 -- At least 12 shepherds and more than 2,000 sheep stranded on an island-like patch in the Ganga near Duhia Saraiya village in Ghazipur were rescued after a sudden rise in the river level, officials said on Monday. A joint police-administration team used night-vision drones to locate them in darkness before launching a six-hour operation with Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) flood personnel, police teams, officials and local boatmen.
