PRAYAGRAJ, May 22 -- The Nawabganj police have initiated proceedings to invoke provisions of the Gangsters Act against six members of an organised cattle smuggling syndicate allegedly involved in the illegal trafficking of bovine animals across states, police said. According to a gang chart prepared by the police, the syndicate was engaged in the large-scale smuggling of prohibited cattle and operated through a coordinated network involving multiple individuals. Police alleged that the gang had been carrying out illegal activities for a long time for financial gains. In a report prepared by SHO Pankaj Awasthi, police identified Mohad Muzaffar, a resident of Chafri village and son of late Mohammad Mukhtar, as the alleged gang leader. Other alleged members identified in the report include Ajay Kumar Harijan of Sarai Fatte, Zaid, Faiz, Mohammad Aslam of Chafri and Saddam alias Abu Hera of Malikpur Fattuhpur. Action has been recommended against all the accused under Sections 2 and 3 of the UP Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act, 1986, said SHO Pankaj Awasthi. Officials said several criminal cases were already registered against the accused in different districts, and some of them were history-sheeters. The report further stated that local residents were often reluctant to testify against the accused due to fear.
