Gangster Act invoked against accused in attempted murder of disabled
PRAYAGRAJ, March 13 -- The Sarai Akil police have invoked the Gangster Act against two accused involved in the attempted murder of a disabled stall owner who refused to give them gutkha on credit. A search operation has been launched to arrest the offenders.
According to SHO of Sarai Akil police station Veer Pratap Singh, the accused have been identified as notorious gang members Rajneesh Pandey, and Navendu Mishra alias Nandu, both residents of Jayantipur. The incident occurred on June 22, 2025, when the duo reached Beniram Katra and demanded gutkha on credit from Bharatlal Sahu, a disabled stall owner. When he refused, they abused and assaulted him. Police said several other criminal cases are already registered against the two.
Given their criminal history and the seriousness of the incident, the Gangster Act was approved by Kaushambi district magistrate Amit Pal Sharma, following which the police initiated strict legal proceedings.
Police have intensified efforts to locate gangster Vimala of Bashkanti village in the Karari area of Kaushambi. A special team has been constituted to track her down, and searches are also underway for other women linked to her gang. The police inspector has assured that arrests will be made soon.
According to inspector Siyakant Chaurasia, Vimala Devi, heads an active gang. Her associates include Usha Devi, and Nanki alias Rajkumari. The gang is notorious across the district for snatching and theft incidents, especially in crowded areas.
On March 10, the Karari police invoked the Gangster Act against the group with the approval of district magistrate Amit Pal Sharma. Police have already arrested Usha Devi. Chaurasia said a dedicated police team is now searching for gang leader Vimala and the remaining members. Raids are being conducted at suspected hideouts, and authorities expect to arrest them soon....
