Agra, Aug. 26 -- Samajwadi Party's national general secretary Ramjilal Suman has objected to an advertisement by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, issued on Independence Day, for featuring V.D. Savarkar prominently above Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh and Subhash Chandra Bose. To register their protest, Gandhians in Agra staged a sit-in at Gandhi Smarak in the trans-Yamuna area on Monday. Suman was joined by noted Gandhian Shashi Shiromani, Ashok Rawat, and Dr. Madhurima Sharma, among others. "We oppose the ideology behind such a poster and want the masses to know the truth. Placing Savarkar's face above all, while reducing icons like Mahatma Gandhi and Subhash Chandra Bose in size, is painful for those who revere Gandhi, who led the nation to freedom," said Suman. PCC member Dr. Madhurima Sharma demanded an explanation from the ministry. "They must clarify the logic behind releasing a poster that places Savarkar above Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh and Bose on Independence Day. It has deeply pained us," she said....
