Lucknow, May 7 -- It's time for questions and answers that count as the first phase of Census 2027 begins in Uttar Pradesh with the self-enumeration exercise on Thursday. Covering a wide range, from assets to amenities, a total of 33 questions will be put to people during the exercise and each will have multiple-choice answers. The May 7-21 self-enumeration process will be followed by house-listing and housing census activities from May 22 to June 20, during which enumerators will visit houses with the questions. The government notified the questions in January 2026. Census 2027 is the first one to be conducted digitally, replacing a paper survey with mobile-based data collection. Equipped with the HLO App, enumerators will visit each household to collect replies to queries. There will also be questions on the material used in the house's construction, its ownership and the number of married couples and those in a live-in relationship staying there.
