Fresh notice to 'illegal' mazars on KGMU premises
LUCKNOW, Feb. 27 -- The King George's Medical University (KGMU) administration on Thursday issued a fresh notice seeking removal of mazars (shrines) allegedly constructed on encroached land within its campus, after deadlines in two earlier notices expired without compliance.
According to KGMU spokesperson prof KK Singh, who is also the nodal officer for land acquisition, the deadline fixed for response is April 1 in view of Ramzan and Holi.
A final hearing in the matter has been scheduled for April 4.
The notice stated that the shrines were constructed without permission, approval or court orders on land belonging to various departments of the university, including the department of obstetrics and gynaecology near Shatabdi (Phase-II), the Trauma Centre premises on land of the respiratory medicine department, the orthopaedic super-speciality building premises, the new boys' hostel premises and behind the microbiology department-II.
Officials said any religious, commercial or other unauthorised construction within the university premises is prohibited and amounts to encroachment on public property.
"As a premier medical and educational institution, KGMU land can legally be used only for academic, medical and administrative purposes," the notice stated....
