LUCKNOW, Aug. 26 -- Four members of a family were killed and a seven-year-old girl was critically injured after their car was rammed by a dumper near Bindora crossing in Barabanki on Tuesday, shortly after the family attempted to take a U-turn while returning from Lucknow. Sharing a post in this regard on X, Barabanki police said in the accident in the Masoli police station area they found five people trapped inside the damaged car. Three were found dead, while two seriously injured people were rushed to the district hospital, where one of them later died. The police statement identified the deceased as Mohd Sharif, 53; his wife Tabassum Bano, 46; their daughter Shazia Khatun, 27 and son Uzem, 22, all residents of Purani Bazaar Dakshini locality in Bhinga town, Shravasti district. Their seven-year-old daughter Huda was seriously injured. Eyewitnesses said the family had stopped by the roadside to ask for directions after losing their way. As the car driver attempted to take a U-turn, a sand-laden dumper travelling from Lucknow towards Ramnagar rammed the car. Locals rushed to the spot after hearing cries for help and informed police. According to police, the family had travelled to Lucknow for Huda's treatment and was returning after collecting her medicines when the accident occurred. Police said family members had been informed. The dumper driver fled the spot after the crash. A 34-year-old BAMS doctor was killed and two others injured when the car they were travelling in crashed into the railing of a railway overbridge on the Prayagraj-Ayodhya highway in Sultanpur late Monday night, police said. The accident occurred near Dariyapur railway overbridge when the car, reportedly travelling at around 100 kmph, crashed into the railing while overtaking another vehicle. Dr Akhtar, who was driving the car, died at the spot. The two other doctors, Dr Shailendra Jaiswal and Dr Rashid, were injured.
