PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 24 -- Four suspected inter-district burglars were arrested following an encounter with a joint team of the Kokhraj police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) near Rohi crossing late Saturday night in Kaushambi, police officials said. One of the suspects sustained a bullet injury to his leg during retaliatory firing and was treated at a medical college hospital, they added. The injured suspect was identified as Alishan, a resident of Gansari under Sandipan Ghat police station. He sustained a bullet injury to his leg. Three other accused-Pradeep of Osa under Manjhanpur police station; Deepak Soni of Khallabad, Bharwari; and Masroor of Sihori under Kokhraj police station-were also arrested. A .315-bore country-made pistol, one live cartridge and two empty cartridges were recovered from Alishan, police said. Police claimed the arrests led to the unravelling of seven theft and burglary cases reported in Kokhraj police station area over the past four months. The accused were produced before the court after completion of formalities, police said. The police also recovered seven pairs of silver anklets, four chains, nine coins, 22 toe rings and 14 rings, besides six gold necklaces, two earrings, five nose rings and three nose pins. An SUV and Rs.1.03 lakh in cash were also seized. Superintendent of police Satyanarayan Prajapat said on Sunday that separate FIRs had been registered in connection with the seven theft incidents. SOG teams were also deployed to trace the suspects. Police examined CCTV footage, questioned local residents and used surveillance inputs to identify the alleged burglars. According to the SP, SOG in-charge Sunil Singh and Kokhraj station house officer Santosh Sharma were conducting checking near Rohi crossing with their respective teams on Saturday night when they received information about the movement of a suspicious SUV. When police tried to stop the vehicle, its driver allegedly attempted to flee by taking a turn. During the ensuing chase and cordoning operation, the suspects got out of the vehicle and tried to escape.
