Varanasi, May 19 -- Four members of an interstate robbery gang, who allegedly dressed as women to target truck drivers and passersby on the Delhi-Kolkata National Highway, were arrested after a police encounter in Chandauli early on Monday. The accused were identified as Upendra Yadav of Mohania in Bihar, Manjay Kumar, Bahadur Thathera and Mustafa. Upendra suffered a bullet injury to his leg during the encounter and was admitted to hospital. According to police, the gang had recently robbed a man travelling from Varanasi to Bihar of Rs.42,000 near Bhagwanpur Canal after stopping and assaulting him. SP Akash Patel said the accused opened fire when police teams surrounded them near Bhagwan Pond. During questioning, the accused confessed that they used disguises and fake requests for help to stop vehicles before robbing drivers of cash, phones and valuables.
