Four drown in separate river mishaps
GORAKHPUR, June 7 -- Four youths, including a young girl, died in two separate drowning incidents in Gorakhpur and Sant Kabir Nagar districts, highlighting the dangers of rivers during the monsoon season. In Gorakhpur, two youths drowned in the Rapti River near the Karthi Badhya pontoon bridge under the Sahjanwa police station area. Police said the victims had gone to the river with friends and were reportedly making social media videos when they entered deep water and were swept away by a strong current. The deceased were identified as Shivam ,14, and Golu ,18. Local residents alerted authorities after seeing them being carried away by the river.
Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) launched a search operation and later recovered the bodies. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.
In Sant Kabir Nagar, siblings Mohammad Saleem ,13, and Iffat Jahan ,8, visiting their maternal grandparents in Daulatpur Ghat village, drowned after entering a deep section of the Kuano River while bathing. Villagers rushed them to hospital, where they were declared dead. htc...
