Haridwar, Aug. 17 -- Forest department has stepped up patrolling and begun fencing and trenching around Dhanyadi village in Barasi Grant of Thano forest range to prevent a wild elephant from entering the village again, days after the animal killed a woman in the area, officials said on Sunday. According to senior forest department officials, the number of personnel deployed in and around the village has been increased from six forest guards to 20. A larger team has also been assigned to monitor the area in shifts and track the elephant. "Fencing is being carried out along with the digging of trenches to prevent the wild elephant from entering the village. A team of 30 forest personnel has been deployed in day and night shifts to maintain vigil and track the elephant," forest ranger LN Dobhal said. He added that bushes and overgrown trees were also being pruned to improve visibility and reduce the possibility of the elephant hiding in dense vegetation close to human habitation.
